This isn’t your average weeknight meat sauce.
Spaghetti often gets a bad rap in the wellness world, but the truth is, it absolutely can be part of a healthy, balanced diet. Carbs aren’t the enemy; in fact, they’re a key source of energy, especially when paired with fibre-rich veggies, lean proteins, or heart-healthy fats. It’s rich, comforting, layered with flavour, and it’s simple. Whether you’re feeding a family, meal-prepping for the week, or just craving a big bowl of cozy, this meat sauce is a go-to recipe that never fails. With simple pantry staples and a few easy tricks, you’ll have a sauce that tastes like it simmered all day, even if it didn’t.

Weeknight Spaghetti and Meat Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil extra virgin
- 1/2 onion finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic finely chopped
- 1 lbs lean ground beef
- 1 can san Marzano tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1/4 cup flat leaf parsley chopped
- 1 tsp basil
- 1 tsp chili flakes
- 1 tsp paprika
- salt & pepper to taste
- 1 pkg spaghetti
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese shredded
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until it is soft and translucent (about 5 minutes). Add garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute, stirring frequently.
- Add ground beef. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, about 6–8 minutes.
- Stir in tomato paste and let it cook for 2 minutes; this deepens the flavour.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes, add oregano, basil, smoked paprika, chilli flakes (if using), and balsamic vinegar. Stir well.
- Reduce heat to low, cover slightly, and let it simmer for at least 25–30 minutes. The longer, the better. Stir occasionally.
- Taste and adjust seasoning. Stir in chopped fresh herbs just before serving.
- Serve over your favourite pasta. Add grated Parmesan cheese.
